Student’s Information & Code of Conduct
Welcome to the Conejo Hebrew High! We’re excited to have you join us in our Hebrew program for high school students. We’ve developed a curriculum that is challenging and stimulating and we look forward to your active participation as we grow together.
The environment at Conejo Hebrew High reflects a level of maturity that our students are expected to live up to. Our primary goal is to learn Hebrew, study Jewish texts, find relevance in Jewish thought, law and rituals, and to recognize and appreciate the unbroken chain of Jewish history that unites us as a People.
In Ethics of our Fathers we are taught, “the day is short, the labor is much”. With the arrival of the new school year, you no doubt have tons of work, the constant pressure to achieve excellence, and the desire to lead an active social life. For our relationship with you to be most effective and rewarding, there are a few simple rules you need to remember and follow.
ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY
Monday & Wednesday class begins at 3:45pm. Students who arrive after 3:55 receive a Tardy. Students who arrive after 4:10 are marked Absent for that class.
Medical appointments should be scheduled out of school time.
Remember - You are responsible for the class material, even if you missed a day. Worksheets and homework are posted online at www.conejohebrewhigh.com. (You will need to enter your student ID and password.)
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR
Each student is entitled to learn in a safe, non threatening manner, best suited to his or her needs, to the best of the school's ability.
The staff and students will work together to create an environment of mutual respect for every individual, to ensure that no individual be made to feel inadequate, uncomfortable or inferior to others.
Inappropriate conduct includes (but is not limited to): disruptive behavior in class, harassing other students, possession of drugs and alcohol, smoking, cheating, plagiarism, damaging school or other student’s property. All matters will first be dealt with in school, between the faculty and student. If necessary, a parent/student/staff conference will follow.
Recognizing that students often come to Hebrew High directly from school with very little time in between, teachers may allow students to drink or eat a light snack during class.
DRESS CODE
In keeping with Jewish tradition and out of respect to the Chabad Synagogue where our classes take place, the Conejo Hebrew High enforces a dress code. Students should dress appropriately for class. Boys must wear a kipa at all times.
Students in violation of the dress code will not be allowed in class and will be marked absent. Examples of dress code violations include (but are not limited to):
Tank tops, tube tops, one strap tanks, revealing or low cut shirts or tops
Low rise pants – bare midriffs
Exposed underwear
“Short” shorts, mini skirts
Inappropriate language or insignia on clothing
SUPPLIES
The school will provide you with most of the necessary materials, textbooks etc. It is your responsibility to have writing instruments and other materials that your instructor may request.
CELL PHONES
Cell phones, iPods, ear buds (and similar devices) that are out in the open during class will be confiscated and returned only to a parent, regardless if they are being used. The infraction will be documented in the student’s file.
SAFETY RULES
Leaving school grounds at any time without permission from a faculty member is strictly prohibited.
There is a 10 minute break between classes at which time students must remain on campus.
Students may not drive their cars during break time, not even in the school parking lot.
Looking forward to seeing you in class on September 3rd!
Rabbi Sapo, Beverly Kamenir, Ayelet, Orly, Malkie and Lieba
